How Should Your Life in Christ Look?

Who should you be as a Christian?

Followers of Christ ask themselves these questions all the time.

New believers and people inexperienced with Scripture especially deal with this issue.

You know how it goes. What are the rules? Am I expected to be perfect? What if our church members see me doing something wrong? What will they think of me?

The list of our expectations goes on and on, usually moving in the wrong direction.

God very much has an expectation for you, but it may be very different than you think.

God wants you to be like Him and to experience His life. What is God like? He is love (1 John 4:8). His life (if we may speak of God in this way) is a life of joy and peace. His life is one of unity and harmony. He is patient, kind, gentle, and faithful. He is holy, righteous, and forgiving.

Isn’t that what you really want? It is certainly what God wants you to have. It is His goal for you.

God’s goal is to impart Himself in you and for you to become life Him.

The fruit of such a life is this: love, joy, peace, patience (long suffering), goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). What else could you need?

I encourage you to pray daily for the filling of His Spirit in your life (Ephesians 5:18) and that more and more you may become as He is.

As you go through this way of praying and thinking, you will be more aware of those things that keep you from Him and from this wonderful life God has for you.

God’s goal is for you to be conformed to the image of Christ. Seek this and you will live (Amos 5:14) and you will live well–for now and for all eternity!

I write a devotional six days a week. If you would like to receive each of my daily looks at life and Scripture, you can sign up below or at waylonbailey.com.
