What Christ Means to Me

Yesterday our pastors met for our weekly meeting. We did many things which are routine for us. For example, we talked about upcoming events and items everyone needed to know about. We laughed a lot and enjoyed being together.

One area that is a standard at our meetings is the discussion of people who have attended for the first time and gave us their contact information. We try to contact our first time guests without being intrusive. Usually, our contact involves a phone call and a letter.

Yesterday, I was struck by how many young families and young adults we had on the list. I was humbled by this tremendous responsibility we have been given.

I think we can all agree that we would like to see people come to faith in Christ as early as possible. In that scenario children, teenagers, and young adults would have a longer time for the Holy Spirit to do his work of sanctification in their lives. They would get to experience Christ working within them for years and decades.

When I visit the local hospitals at the birth of a child, I always pray for that mom and dad and baby. One of the items that I pray about is that “at an early age this child will come to know Christ.“

I am frankly encouraged at the number of young families who recognize they need God, Holy Scripture, and a church family in their lives. I am impressed at the number of twenty-somethings who are attending Bible study and worship.

When I give my testimony I emphasize two areas that have been a blessing in my life. Because I came to know Christ at an early age, I have never been alone in life. God the Holy Spirit has always accompanied me through the ups and downs of life. The other area is that I have never been without hope. You and I should remember that as long as there is God, there is hope. He is the God of hope.

Like you, my life is not always easy, but I experience peace, joy, and hope because of Christ.

Knowing Christ is a blessing. Living with Him brings hope to difficult times and peace and joy in spite of the circumstances.

Would you join with me in praying for the next generation that Christ would make himself known to them and that these youngest Americans would open their hearts to Him?
