Governing the Church

Churches are governed in many different ways. While I don’t consider that others govern their churches wrongly, I certainly am thankful for the way our church is led and directed.

We are a free church, and we are congregationally governed.

This means that the authority is derived from the congregation. In practical terms it means that you determine the present direction and the future of the church. While this gives you, the congregation, great authority, it gives you even more responsibility before God.

Over the next few weeks, you have the responsibility of leading and governing the church in such a way as to determine the future of the church.

Wednesday night at 6:30 PM we will have a brief congregational meeting to make decisions about those who will serve on various ministry teams in the future and we will make an important bylaw decision about the election of deacons.

Our deacons have recommended a slight change in election procedure which will have profound effects in the future. For this reason, it is very important for you to be present and involved in the decision making process.

Wednesday November 14, at 6:30 p.m. we will have an additional congregational meeting to examine and discuss the 2019 budget for First Baptist Church. We will discuss the budget that night and vote on the budget in the worship services the first weekend.

Please remember our budget determines the ministry plan for the coming year. Our plan is to be transparent and open with the finances of the church. To help accomplish that we present a financial report at each congregational meeting.

We hope you will be a part of these meetings and the governing of First Baptist church.
