The Mark of a Man

Today is a day of mourning and remembering the 41st President of the United States of America. George Herbert Walker Bush passed away late Friday night at the age of 94.

He certainly made a mark on America.

Would you think with me about this man?

No doubt, you have read a number of articles or heard many news stories about President Bush.

It’s easy to think about all the good things he did. Did life always work out for him?

He obviously had a lot going for him.

He was elected President of the United States after having served as Vice President under President Reagan.

His son was elected president.

After World War II he went into the oil business and became a wealthy man.

Sounds like a charmed life, doesn’t it?

Now think with me about all the things that went wrong.

As the youngest Navy Fighter Pilot, he flew 58 combat missions in WW II. He was shot down and thankfully rescued.

He and his wife Barbara lost a daughter to leukemia at age three.

After serving one term, he lost reelection as President.

George H. W. Bush reminds us of the difference one person can make. It also reminds us that life is never easy, even when it may seem that a person has everything.

Today, we will hear again about this good man who made a real mark in America. We will also hear of his Christian faith and his genuine desire to do good and to live righteously.

Let us be a people who seek to live out our faith and make a mark where we live.

Thanks for reminding us that life does have its ups and downs. President Bush was a gentle giant.

WAYLON. I served under this Commander in Chief and it was an honor. He blessed our nation with his honor and integrity. He gave us a model. Much less than the model of Christ but George H. W. Bush I believed strived in the direction of Christ. I sure hope and pray his influence will multiply across our country and our Government at all levels. His death may the blessing we need to go forward.
