What Does This Mean?

Early Saturday morning a friend–a very good friend–sent me a picture of a December 2018 calendar. Accompanying the calendar was an explanation.

December 2018 is the only December in our lifetime that will have five Saturdays, five Sundays, and five Mondays. It really is an interesting phenomenon. According to his explanation, it only happens once every 823 years!

By the way, I love little tidbits like this. I find them interesting and fun.

So, what does this mean?

Nothing, not a thing. Time and calendars are man made. God is not bound by time. He is above time.

The calendar is really interesting to me, but it doesn’t mean anything. But here is truth that means everything to us.

First, this is the day the Lord has made. We are to use it for His glory. We are to rejoice and be glad in it. We like to say this is “our only day,” and it is a true saying except it really isn’t ours. It belongs to God . He should be worshiped and praised through this day.

Second, it really is the only day we can be assured of. Life is fragile, and it is brief. We must treat this day with respect for what it gives us.
Third, this is the day to be kinder, more loving, more understanding than you’ve ever been. I love what Paul said to the church: “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32). We should especially deal in these grace-filled ways with outsiders, so that they may see Christ in us.
Finally, let this be the day and month (if God so blesses us with a full month) that you do your best to share what Christ has done for you for this very day.

  1. True. My journey of faith began, in part, by the realization that today is all I’ve got. And it is but a gift from God.

  2. I don’t mean to be a killjoy, but the 2018 calendar will repeat in 2029. If we didn’t have leap years calendars would repeat every 7 years.
