I’m sure you have been in the kind of situation that I am going to describe. It’s a time when any decision you make will not be a perfect decision, maybe not even a good decision.There are times when you simply can’t win.

In one sense, that was where Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane. He faced betrayal, rejection, suffering, and death. It must have seemed to the humanity of Christ that there was no good answer.

What do you do when you have that kind of dilemma?

Let’s notice what Jesus did.

First, He gathered people around Him who loved and cared for Him. You and I know that these friends failed Jesus, but we can also see how much He wanted them to be with Him. Though the decision and the prayer was His, Jesus wanted the inner circle of the disciples – – Peter, James, and John – – to be with Him during this time.

We were made for human relationships. We need people who will lift us up in prayer and who will call our name before the Father.In the most significant decision in history, Jesus wanted His friends nearby.

Second, Jesus made this decision in the midst of intense and fervent prayer. He petitioned the Father and sought His will as He prayed. His prayer not only helped Him make the decision, but it also fortified Him for the suffering that was to come.

We need to pray in all things, and we need to be constant in prayer. To do so is to find the help and strength of God even in the most difficult decisions.

Finally, Jesus placed His decision in the hands of the loving heavenly Father.

In life, there are so many times when we simply don’t have an answer. Many times life will present situations for which there is no good decision. Yet, we have to make a decision.

Like Jesus, we must seek the Father and place our life in the His hands. He alone sees the end from the beginning. He is all knowing and all wise.

The answer to our dilemmas is to always place our lives and our needs in the hand of our good, loving Father.

While looking at Gethsemane from the outside, it seemed that there was no answer and no way, but God was at work reconciling the world unto Himself. He provided the way for our forgiveness and redemption.

“God will make away where there seems no way. He works in ways we cannot see. God will make a way for me.

He will be my guide. Hold me closely to His side. With love and strength for each new day. He will make a way, He will make a way.”
