Yesterday, I wrote about how life can be disappointing and how life does not always turn out the way you want.

But, it’s not all disappointment.

In fact, in my life I find many more blessings than disappointment.

Scripture affirms the blessings of God.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:1-2).

The psalm continues with how the man of God is blessed. “He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all he does, he prospers” (Psalm 1:3).

Notice the totality of God’s blessings. He blesses every part of life.

As my daughters were growing up, I tried to help them see the reality of life. Sometimes life can be hard. Difficulty will come to everyone, but “if you live your life for God and according to His plan you will experience the best life possible.” The Psalmist said, “In all that he does, he prospers.”

The Lamentations illustrates this same truth. Lamentations is a series of “laments” concerning the destruction of Jerusalem. In some ways, it is all about sadness and destruction (life has plenty of disappointments and heartache), but right in the middle you read this promise.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him’ ” (Lamentations 3:22-24).

Life can be hard, but to live in Christ is to experience the blessings which are new every morning.

Fun fact: In the Hebrew language, the word “blessing” is always plural, never singular. The language itself expresses the multiple blessings of God. He blesses us in a multitude of ways.
