Don’t Be Afraid

We certainly live in a time of fear and anxiety. Anyone can understand how so many people are anxious and afraid.

Tonight (Wednesday) at 7:00pm, I will be teaching live about prayer and anxiety. You can join the teaching by going to www.fbccov.org and click view live. The study will last about 30 minutes and I will answer some of the questions submitted online. I hope you will join me at this first (but not last) attempt to reach my congregation, community, and waylonbailey.com readers online with live, interactive participation.

Jesus told us not to fear. He repeatedly encouraged His followers not to be afraid.

How can we do this in the present environment? Let me give you both biblical and practical advice. Practical advice, by the way, is not unbiblical. The Bible contains many wisdom books which help us deal with everyday life.

First, live in the moment. Don’t let yourself play the “what if” game. Remind yourself that you have money, food, friends, health, and whatever else you are concerned with right now. Stay in the present.

Second, get someone to help you with what you are afraid of. Ask for help and listen carefully to that help.

Third, study, memorize, and meditate on the words of Jesus and biblical teachings. Here are some of my favorites: Psalm 56 (especially verses 3 and 4), 1 Peter 5:7, Isaiah 41:10, and 1 John 4:17-18.

Fourth, spend time with God in prayer. I find that the more time I spend with God the less I deal with fear and anxiety.

These are difficult times. “Take everything to God in prayer.”

  1. Good sound advice. We are well and staying busy with projects that have needed our attention. Actually, I love staying home but I so miss church and fellowship. We continue to pray for the staff and our church and community. A lot of people do not have Jesus and are hurting.

    Love you!

  2. I am so thankful that God has given you the gift of encouragement & you share it with us daily. Your messages and reminders of God’s faithfulness help my family & me get through each day’s trials. Thank you so very much for helping us stay connected!
