Three Lessons to be Learned from this Present Crisis

We are currently going through an astounding crisis, but this will not be the last crisis in your life. Life is filled with hard times, but even in the hard times we learn good lessons. Actually, most of the real lessons of life come from difficulty.

Paul said that afflictions bring perseverance and perseverance proven character, and proven character hope. And hope does not disappoint (Romans 5:3-5).

What can we learn from this crisis?

First, we can relearn the value of every person. Isn’t it wonderful that grandchildren are protecting their grandparents? Aren’t we learning that every life matters?

Have you noticed that people are giving up things to bless others? What would happen in America if we gave up sexual promiscuity for the sake of the unborn and the good of society?

After all, all studies show the value of purity and the importance of fidelity in marriage?

Second, we are learning to value people and relationships over money and things. There’s a meme going around Facebook where a 20 year old of the future looks back 12 years to this crisis and only remembers at age 8 how much fun he had playing board games with the family and not having to rush from place to place.

Third, we learn the secret of being content. Paul said, “For I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.” He further stated, “In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need” (Philippians 4:11-12).

Is there any greater value than learning to live in joy and peace in spite of the circumstances? When we no longer allow the circumstances to control us, we begin living the way God intended.

God desires that we depend on Him and allow Him to be our sufficiency. Paul said it this way, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

“All things” for Paul was prison. For us it is the Coronavirus or something else. It doesn’t matter. In all things we can learn to be content and to overcome through Christ who strengthens us.
