How to Pray 2 Chronicles 7:14

Many local believers and thousands around the world are praying at special times during the day asking God to protect us and to heal our land.

Many churches, both Catholic and Protestant, have joined together in the New Orleans region to pray for God’s protection. You may know that the New Orleans region is one of the hotspots in the country for Covid-19. Just today we recorded more than 1,000 new cases.

The group I am praying with is praying at 7:14 AM and PM. The 7:14 comes from 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

How can you pray this verse?

First, acknowledge to God your utter dependence on Him. Submit your life and your whole self to God in humility. “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves . . . .” Tell God that you seek Him in humility in prayer. Submit yourself fully and completely to Him.

Second, spend significant time in prayer. I have set my alarm on my smartphone to 7:14 for the purpose of reminding me to pray. “And pray and seek my face . . .” God loves the prayers of His people who humble themselves and seek Him in prayer.

Third, ask God to show you your sin. When He shows this to you–whether large or small–immediately tell God you want to leave that sin behind and to move forward in obedience to Him. Repentance is hard to do but sweet in its effect.

Nehemiah gives us an example of confessing our national sin. Though we have no idea that Nehemiah had sinned as the nation had, he confessed the sin of the nation and asked God to forgive. “I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s house, have committed against you. We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses” (Nehemiah 1:6-7).

Remember, no sin is small to God. We must repent and turn from our wicked ways. “And turn from their wicked ways . . . .”

Fourth, ask God to forgive you of your sin and ask Him to heal our land. This is God’s promise. Do not be afraid to ask. He wants to forgive and He wants to heal in response to the repentance of His people and their humble prayers. “Then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Ask God to forgive and heal. Remember that the “prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective” (James 5:16).

  1. Just got off yet another Zoom meeting.
Left with the firm conviction that this may be a brave new world,
but this is still God’s world!
