We Have An Enemy

We have an enemy who seeks to kill, steal, and destroy. He is the prince of this world, and he does not give up territory without a fight. Therefore, we can expect hard times ahead.

But this is an exciting time to be in the fight for God. God is doing amazing things. You can see it all around us.

While I am disappointed in what is happening to people, I am also thrilled at what God is doing. Notice what is taking place.

Each Sunday the gospel is preached all over America even though church buildings are closed. Yesterday, for the first time in a long time, I thought about a question at my ordination council. One veteran pastor wanted to know what I would do if a church would not let me preach. The question went something like this, “Suppose you are fired from your church and they wouldn’t let you preach, what would you do?”

I was young and had never considered such a situation, but my answer was that “I would preach wherever I could because this was what God had called me to do.”

Now churches are closed, but the gospel is being preached more than ever. All over America, churches and preachers are finding ways to preach the gospel.

Early yesterday morning, I texted the pastor of church in our state. I asked how they are having services. I expected to hear of all the difficulty they were having. Instead, I heard how they have services every night by internet! The church is doing great!

Can’t you imagine that our enemy thought he had won!

But remember this, “The gates of hell will not overcome [the church]” (Matthew 16:18). God has given us the victory. Now, we simply have to fight the battle.

John the Baptist, in prison awaiting death, wanted to know if Jesus was the one who was to come. Instead of simply saying, “Yes,” Jesus sent to tell John what was happening: “The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor” (Matthew 11:5).

Today, Christians are recognizing the joy of being part of the body of Christ. We are not taking church and being together for granted. We are not taking the gospel for granted. Lost people are hearing the good news, and everyone wants to pray.

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:57-58).

  1. Thank you Pastor Waylon. You have been a blessing to us during this trying time. I watched the prayer time with you the governor and other pastors and leaders last night. Felt so uplifting to watch. Sometimes when I am really low I have to think when we will be back in person to hear you and yes, I will be singing in the choir once again .

  2. Thank you all so much for all of your hard work that is put into sharing God’s Word. I am able to be more involved online and David is really enjoying it too since he has been working from home for the last few weeks. Lisa
