The One Thing You Must Do

This weekend will mark the beginning of our re-gathering as the church.

This is the weekend we have looked forward to. For many of us, we simply didn’t know how much we missed being with the body of Christ.

That leads to our dilemma. How many people will be a part of this weekend? Will everything work out well? Will we be elated or disappointed?

Martha asked if I was excited or guarded. I had to answer truthfully that I am both.

Some of you will be at worship gathered with other believers this weekend. Others of you will be at home worshiping around your computer or smartphone.

Whether at home worshiping or at the church building worshiping, here is the one thing you must do.

To paraphrase the words of Paul to the church at Colossae, “Whatever you do, whether at home or at the church building, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.”

God wants us to give our all to Him. Our location is not the issue. The issue is our devotion to Him. This weekend is not about me or about you.

It is about Christ. The worship is His and His alone.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17).

“It is the Lord Christ you are serving” (Colossians 3:24b).

The one thing you must do is work at serving Christ with all your heart, as working for the Lord and not for men (Colossians 3:23).

  1. Thank you Waylon, your message today fits perfectly with your message of April 30, 2020, “The First Words of the Day”
    Amen!

  2. Thank you Waylon. I was encouraged and convicted by the scriptures you included today. I’m reminded that in everything we do – in worship, in relationships, in work, in finances, in recreation… – whatever we do “It is the Lord Christ you(we) are serving”.
