How the Bible Can Help Your Marriage–and Your Life!

The Bible can help your marriage, but not in the way you may be thinking.

The Bible is not magical. It’s not a good luck charm you carry around. It certainly doesn’t contain “secret” material that others aren’t privy to. For my views about this subject, click here.

The Bible is God’s Word communicated to those who desire to know and follow Him.

The Bible can help your marriage–and your life!

Here’s how.

First, the Bible speaks directly to husbands, wives, children, and parents. You can find very meaningful help in Scripture.

Second, opening the Bible and seeking God through it, opens you to the power of God in your life. When a husband and wife submit themselves to God first, they allow God to do in them what they can’t do themselves.

Third, following the teachings of Scripture will change every part of your life.

What would happen if all of a sudden a husband determined to love his wife like Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25)? What if a woman determined to treat her husband with respect (Ephesians 5:33)? What if they did that at the same time? Wouldn’t those actions and that obedience of God be transformative in their home?

Finally, the Bible is a game changer.

Think of these commands. “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12). “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39).

Here’s more. “Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:32). Would that affect the atmosphere in your home?

What would happen if you sought the fruit that being filled with God’s Spirit brings? “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23). By being filled with the Spirit, you will be shunning wrath, anger, resentment, and a multitude of other harmful actions (Galatians 5:19-21).

Could your marriage and family use some of God’s wisdom? “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy” (James 3:17).

Let God change you, and He will also change all your relationships.
